Mr. Yong Choon Chun
Staff

I joined Breakthrough Missions in 2007, and have been here since.

During my national service I was assigned to work in the kitchen. The work pressure was great and I often felt very stressed. My campmates were a mix of different characters and I soon picked up some of their bad habits which included reading pornographic magazines. This was the vice that enslaved me and I was trapped.

After my national service, I found a job as a chef apprentice in a hotel. Although I no longer read pornographic materials as much as I did before, the porn virus was already in my mind. I was jailed 3 times for molestation; the first offence was committed when I was 30 years old. On my third offence, I was given the maximum jail term of 7 years. I was imprisoned a total of 10 years, all because of my porn addiction.

During my third jail term, a pastor came to preach the Gospel in the prison. I was moved by the Holy Spirit and, guided by the pastor, I repented my sins and accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and saviour. I prayed to God to transform me and lead me on to the right path.

I came to Breakthrough Missions in 2007, soon after serving my final jail term. As I had worked in Chinese and Western restaurants I was assigned to the kitchen department in Breakthrough. Thank God for giving me the talent of cooking, the only skill I have. I would wake up very early each morning to start working in the kitchen - defrosting food, cutting, grinding, shelling and peeling, frying, cooking, and making sauces etc – to prepare the three daily meals for about 60 residents and staff at Breakthrough Missions. That will keep me busy till after lunch when I can have a short rest.

I thank God for the cooking ministry at Breakthrough as it suits me very well. It is where I can make use of my talents and de-stress at the same time.
